Making a bunk of wood for our kiln.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
<\/td>
    * Bunks should 45-48 inches wide by no more than 12ft 4in long.
    * Using 5 stickers for 8′ stock and 7 stickers for 12′ stock.
    * 8 foot bunks should be stacked no higher than 4 foot, 12 foot bunks 3 foot or less.
    * Stickers should be evenly spaced and lined up from top to bottom.
    * Bunks should end with a flat surface so bunks can be stacked easily.
    * When stickering multiple lengths, start with the long boards on the bottom,
    stagger the shorter boards from each end, you may need to use additional stickers.
    * Fresh wood must be aired dried, before it is placed in the kiln.
    * Dry days with a little wind, pine and other softwoods will be ready in a month or two.
    * Hardwoods like oak and ash should air dry for several months.
    * The thicker the wood, the longer it takes.
    * Thick walnut slabs can take 6 months to a couple of years before they are ready for the kiln.
    * Be patient, placing them in the kiln too soon will cause twisting and checking\/cracking.<\/strong><\/ul><\/td>

When the wood moisture content is below 20% it is time to call Bain’s Mill and
make an appointment so we can slowly dry your wood in our kiln.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

We are not excepting thick<\/em><\/em> live edge slabs or mantles for drying at this time<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
